Physiotherapy under the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme funds physiotherapy as a capacity building support — meaning the focus is on building functional skills and independence, not ongoing passive treatment. At Absolute Health, our NDIS physiotherapy programs are designed with this principle at the centre: we work toward measurable goals that are meaningful to you and relevant to your plan.

Physiotherapy under the NDIS can be funded under the Capacity Building — Improved Health and Wellbeing support category, and in some cases under Daily Activities where the physiotherapy directly supports functional capacity for daily tasks.

What NDIS physiotherapy at our clinic involves

Each participant is different, and the physiotherapy program reflects the goals in your plan and what your assessment reveals. Common areas our NDIS physiotherapy addresses include:

  • Mobility and movement — improving walking capacity, transfers, stair climbing and general functional mobility
  • Balance and falls prevention — particularly relevant for participants with neurological conditions, older participants and those with a history of falls
  • Strength and conditioning — progressive exercise programs to build the physical capacity needed to participate in community activities
  • Pain management — physiotherapy-led strategies for managing chronic pain that is limiting function and participation
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation — structured recovery following orthopaedic or other surgery
  • Equipment prescription and home program training — advising on and prescribing appropriate equipment, and training participants and carers in home exercise programs

Working with your support coordinator

We are experienced in working within the NDIS framework and are happy to liaise with your support coordinator, LAC or care team. We provide progress reports, functional assessments and documentation as required by your plan manager. If you are self-managed or plan-managed, we can provide invoices in the format required for your claiming process.

Please call us on (07) 5478 2333 to discuss your situation before booking — this helps us ensure we have the right information to set up your NDIS booking correctly from the start.

Participants we work with

Our NDIS physiotherapy program supports participants across a range of disability types and age groups, including:

  • Neurological conditions — stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease
  • Musculoskeletal disabilities — chronic joint conditions, limb differences, spinal cord injury
  • Intellectual disability — with a focus on accessible communication and functional goals
  • Autism spectrum disorder — where physiotherapy targets motor development, coordination and physical participation
  • Cerebral palsy — across the severity spectrum, with goals matched to the participant’s stage of development and life priorities
